Haiku Friday

Baby snuggled close
snoring puffs of hot sweet breath
over my shoulder.

Motherhood rewards
me with delicate moments
spun like spiderwebs.

Catch them when you can
the magic minutes finding
calm between the storms.

Haiku Friday

Haiku Friday

Travel with children,
The crying, boredom and tears,
requires tequila.

We left with four hours
plenty of time to get to
the flight to Cali.

Monkey complained of
a painful crick in her neck
crying the whole ride.

We got stuck halfway
twixt Jersey and vacation
I hate construction.

Two hours 'til take off
We can make it, no worries
"Mom? I don't feel good."

An hour thirty-ish
Still on the bridge not moving
bag under her mouth.

Calling airline fast
can they fly us out later
We aren't even close.

Horking in the back
as my daughter adds her own
spice to the journey.

Breakthrough on freeway!
We violate physics laws
as we race the clock.

Check in goes quickly
everyone is late today
stupid construction.

Through security
onto the plane just in time
pant never again.

Five days in Cali
Time on the beach with our friends
Totally worth it.

Haiku Friday...

I'm down in the dumps
feeling sad and very blue
once more far from home.

First Dad brought sunshine
some hugs and conversations
added to my days.

After Dad came Mom
bringing with her warmth and love
simply together.

Two weeks with my folks,
making me feel at home here
in far far away.

Games with the kiddos
laughter and family fun
days spent reveling.

Now it's a quiet house
just baby and me again
a normal morning.

I'm feeling adrift
in my not so fairy tale
far far far away.

Haiku Friday

Morning comes early
three, four, five, five-ten a.m.
sleep baby please sleep.

Bleary mommy naps
wrapped under a sweatshirt
on the comfy couch.

Happy baby laughs
swatting mommy with his hand.
Wake up mommy, smack!

Five is too early
Sleep baby, please let me sleep.
Smack please baby, smack.

Haiku Friday

"You are my best friend"
My daughter whispered to me.
Tears sprung to my eyes.

Thank you my dearest
Those are the most wonderful
words I've ever heard.

Haiku Friday

Blissful Haiku day
you give me something to say
Damn NaBloPoMo.

It seems pledging posts
shatters and wrecks havoc on
my inspiration.

Wit and Cleverness
are now distant cousins here
leaving you snoring.

Maybe a new meme
another weekly gig will
animate my prose.

Couplet’s on Monday?
Terza Rima on Tuesday?
Wednesday’s Lyrics?

Free verse for Sunday?
Horatian Ode Thursday?
Saturday Sonnets?

So many options
A poetic offering
each day of the week.

When will it all end?
This NaBloPoMo craziness?
Oh yeah... in April.

Maybe for next year
I will choose February
Three less posts you know.

Seven Days and Seven Nights...

Sadly not a Cruise
around the fair Greek islands
in a red sarong.

Seven Days and Nights
spent watching over fevered
children in their beds.

Seven days of tears
seven nights of sleeplessness
Mommy needs a break.

(See more Haiku's)

Monkey began the long week with Strep last Friday, and stayed home sick and miserable through Tuesday morning. Just as I sent her off to school and snuggled down with the wee babe, he spiked a fever of 104, and has been battling it ever since. As I indicated in last night's dreary post, he has the flu.

So here I am, peeking around the corner at another weekend, having survived five straight days home alone with ill children. I am a little worn out, very sleep deprived, and I swear dehydrated. It feels like the baby is trying to nurse every drop of liquid out of my body.

All night long he clung to me, nursing away his misery and illness. I know the doctor said to limit his nursing, but after trying to calm him every other way I know, I went with my gut and just gave him the boob. I don't think having a flu ridden baby scream for two hours is better for him than breastmilk. The only thing he might do is throw up more, but so far, he has kept it down.

I would be unsurprised if Monkey comes down with the flu, and if she does, I am going to slam my head into the nearest desk, hard.

We are completely out of easy to prepare food, as I have not made it to the store in a week, so I am stuck cooking serious dishes from scratch. I don't even have any brownie mix!! I am also almost out of diaper wipes, as my month Costco trip was put off due to illness.

I am going to have to venture out to the Wegman's today, or find a delivery service for these items. Hmmm.... I wonder if anything I need could be sent to me via Amazon, we have free shipping.

Is it gauche to order one's groceries online?

Haiku Friday

I have been feeling the need to point out a few reasons why a person might take gender into consideration when choosing a candidate in this election. (Obviously similar reasoning would apply to race, but I am most effected by the gender issue, so that is where I am writing from.) Thank you for reading!

A Haiku about
finding that one person who
can represent you.

Haiku Friday
Why would a woman
favor another woman?
Representation.

Women face issues
unique to women, shared
by other women.

Pregnancy alters
the path of women’s careers
and not that of men.

Big boobs and buttons
aren’t high clothing concerns
in a man’s routine.

Painting on faces
starting the day behind masks,
competing always.

Will this haircut or
these shoes make them take me much
less seriously?

Women are bitches
when voicing our opinions,
with strong confidence.

Women face issues
different from those men face.
Our own challenges.

I want a woman
because I am a woman.
She represents ME.

I want this woman,
Because she is the best AND
She represents ME.

I like her issues
I approve of her platform.
I want Hillary.

Haiku Friday

Haiku Friday

Snow floats cold and white
School's out this wintery day
Freedom shrieks outside.

Uncovered in play
A class of snowy angels
learns in my backyard.

Red noses and hands
cavort until they tingle
in the chilly white.

The house settles in
noise softened by snow's blanket
a cold sleepy day.

Tuck under a throw
coffee and breakfast in hand
quiet contentment.

Haiku Friday...

Haiku Friday

Walking home alone
a step into adulthood
edging closer now.

Freedom plays music
across your baby features
fashioning them grown.

Every day steps
inconsequential and small
make you more mature.

You get your own snacks,
You have friends I'll never meet
now you walk alone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monkey started walking home alone this week, for the first time ever! It is really only one block to walk, but still marks such a step for her! She is growing so fast. I can't believe my baby is walking home on her own.

Valentine's day was good, Monkey made us a card, I made roast and apple pie, and Lee brought me a book of the world' 500 best trips, and told me I get to choose where we go next! I am so excited! Do I choose Greece? Spain? Alaska? Where to go!?!

It was a fun night, and now we are relaxing on our day off, home in our jammies and doing not a whole lot.

Haiku Friday...

Haiku Friday

Some Haiku’s surrounding the issue of parenting...

Young ears hear nothing
from the mouths of their mothers
We speak in whispers.

Stay at home mother
full time work plus overtime
salary: kisses

Give me no diamonds
sticky handprints and kisses
are enough for me.

Whomever said song
soothes the savage breast of man
had no singing child.

No baby! Not that!
is the mantra of our days
as he learns to crawl.

“Digging in your heels”
Is a phrase inspired by
children and dachsunds.

Haiku Friday... and Heart Health Friday!!

A few poetic
offerings to stir the soul
from a sleepy mind....

Haiku Friday

This mug of coffee
on this wet winter morning,
warms more than my hands.

Dog rudely sniffs Cat,
in an embarrassing place,
Cat looks disgusted.

Things that could kill him,
bring unending gleeful joy
to the questing babe.

A small hand soothes me,
my daughter's gentle patting,
on my weary brow.

GO RED FOR HEART HEALTH!!
Help men and women you love
spread the word, save lives.

Go Red

The new Hollywood? (and Haiku Friday)

It would seem that technology has caught up with film making in an exciting way, the materials used by professionals in this industry and those used by amateurs are becoming increasingly similar, putting amateur film makers in the position, equipment and editing wise, of being just as able (or for those of us who are bitter about the second set of Star Wars films, even more able) to produce a block buster movie as Spielberg.

Here's a clip demonstrating how a World War II D-Day invasion was staged in a few days with four guys and video camera.

Look here on CT2 to read more.

Also, it's Haiku Friday again, so here goes my second attempt:

Warm, soft, fuzzy head
footy jams, gentle nuzzles
could I love you more?

When did Steven Colbert get so sexy? (and Haiku Friday)

Is it just me, or did Colbert go from goofy faux correspondent, to slightly less goofy faux O'Reilly, to a fox!

This is him on the Daily Show:

He was doofy, he was goofy. He did not wear a power tie, he did not have a Kennedy Bouffant. He was the weird counterpart to sarcastically sexy Stuart.

This was him when his own show was announced:

Look at that! POW! He pops, he raises an inquisitive brow! He has "it". (Oh, and he is wearing a power tie. What is it with the power tie? Why does it make me think bad things?)

Now, it could be his amazing sense of humor, and the speech he gave at the White House Press Correspondents Dinner, which was a powerful moment in my political history and made me love him. However, even without these things, I think he has managed to increase his sex appeal.

In the end, it doesn't matter, he had me at "Folks, the President needs a break. He's like a Black and Decker cordless Dirt Devil vacuum. If you don’t recharge his batteries, he can't suck."

It is also Haiku Friday! Here is my first attempt:
